As preparations continue, the distribution of kits to women at the Teslim Balogun Stadium is underway for the 8th edition, which has been growing in scale with each passing year.

A remarkable feature of the Lagos Women Run is that it has no age limit, welcoming women of all ages with a core mission to empower and encourage women on their fitness and health journeys.

As one of the banners at the event states, “Age is no barrier; it’s a limitation you put on your mind.”

Tayo explained, “The idea is to bring women together to network and to empower women using the platform of a road race, which is run to bring them together. It’s a thing that we feel that we need to address a lot of things concerning women, and one of those things is empowerment and another thing is their general well-being and values of life.

We feel that with Lagos Women Run, which is a platform, these women can be able to address all these issues, to be able to actually correct them or make it a little bit better to what they would probably expect or prefer.” She said in an interview with Sports247.

Regarding the cash prizes awarded to winners, Tayo responded, “This year, we are giving prizes to the winners from 1-20 in the open category. We are doing this because we believe that there should be a platform where women can receive support.

When a woman participates and takes home something, it makes her happy. These are some of the things we believe we should do, and that’s why we are doing it.”

Her expectations for this year’s edition are high: “This year’s edition will have more women, and if we have more women, then more women will be smiling this year.

Knowing that the women are ready and willing to participate keeps us going. We are eager to support them as much as we can.”

When asked if the event is connected to grassroots development, Tayo explained, “Identifying a challenge is a form of grassroots development, but this event spans across both the grassroots and elite levels.

Some participants come from grassroots backgrounds and are looking for opportunities to connect with other women, while some elites aim to measure their well-being using this platform to achieve that.”

In her words of encouragement for the women ahead of the event on Saturday, she emphasized the significance of their participation, “I want the women to come out, and everyone should be proud of them.

Nothing they are doing is in vain. What they are doing here is a significant measure that can provide them support in life, and they should see it as ‘if they can do it, we can do it too,’ and that’s what they are doing here.”
