36 Lions defender, Ayinde Quam has revealed the motivation behind the penalty shoot out win against Spartan FC in the Lagos Supremacy Cup as he attributes it to honoring the promise they made to the fans and the club chairman after the Jagaban Cup heartbreak.
The lanky defender admitted that it was tough to take when they couldn’t make it to the Jagaban Cup finals but they (the players) had to speak amongst themselves for a better outing at the Lagos Supremacy Cup if they want to have a go at the trophy, Sports247 writes.
“I really don’t have much to say about this game because we all have intentions to play, give the best of ourselves both individually and as a team to win this trophy but a winner must surely emerge,” he stated in his post match interview after the penalty shoot out win.
“The last Jagaban Cup that we played, we finished third and we know that we have another opportunity to make it right now in this final because we promised our fans, club chairman and ourselves that we have to win this.”
“We are grateful to God that we won the penalty shoot out.”
On his long term target and ambitions as a player, he said, “my target is to play in Europe. We all know that Nigeria football is somehow and that’s why I’m putting more effort to gain admission and continue my career in Europe.”
“So many talents waste in Nigeria, I don’t want to end up like one of them, I want to have a different story.”
“I play from defensive midfield before but because of the agility and work rate that I have, I was pushed to central defense and it has given me more experience.”
“Just take a good look at Casemiro in Manchester United, I love him and his pattern of play a lot. I learn a lot from him just to be more better.”
