The Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Gafaar Oluwatoyin has shown high hopes for young weightlifters at the weightlifting open championship organized by the state.
The commission has organized the weightlifting open championship to prepare young weightlifters for future engagement to represent the state.
The championship which was staged at the Rowe Park Sports Centre, Yaba, Lagos was organized to encourage young men and women who wants to participate in the sports.
Speaking on day two of the event, Gafaar expressed hopes that the state has what it takes to produce world and Commonwealth champions in the nearest future.
“We have lifters and prospective Commonwealth champions in the 46, 53, and 55kg categories.”
The director general reiterated that Lagos State will continue to make the training facilities better for the benefit of the upcoming athletes.
He also advised the upcoming stars to shun drugs and should always be focused on all their endeavors.
According to Gafaar, the state will regularly organize this program to ensure they have the best athletes, not just for Lagos alone, but also to represent Nigeria at large.
