“This year, we’re thrilled to announce the participation of 80 male teams,” AbdulRahmon revealed.
“These teams will compete across various rounds, starting from round 1 to the final.
Additionally, we have the participation of five female teams, marking a significant increase from the previous year.”
The tournament format will see the male teams progress through rounds 1 to 2, followed by rounds 32 to 16, leading up to the quarter-finals, semi-finals, and the grand finale.
In contrast, the female teams will enter directly at the quarter-final stage, where they will vie for a spot in the semi-finals.
AbdulRahmon emphasized the widespread participation across Lagos State, with matches scheduled to take place across 10 different centres spanning five divisional air phases.
“We aim to showcase football artistry, sportsmanship, and the Lagos team spirit throughout the competition,” he added.
When questioned about the increased participation of female teams, AbdulRahmon attributed it to the dedication and resilience of the teams amidst challenging circumstances.
“Last year saw only three female teams participating, but this year, we’re proud to have five teams stepping up to compete,” he noted. “It’s a testament to their commitment and determination.”
Lagos State’s dominance in football was underscored by AbdulRahmon, who revealed that the state boasts the highest number of participating teams in the entire country.
“With 80 teams, Lagos State leads the way, far surpassing other regions,” he stated. “This demonstrates our continued progress and the growing popularity of football in the state.”
As the countdown to the FA Cup 2024 begins, anticipation is mounting as football enthusiasts eagerly await the kickoff of what promises to be an exhilarating tournament showcasing the best of Lagos State football talent.
