The Congress of Lagos State Football Association (LSFA) rose from their annual general assembly on Saturday with an approval of a N3.6bn budget for the 2024/2025 season.
This was revealed exclusively to sports247.ng by LSFA Secretary-General, Akeem Rabiu-Okikiopusu, while giving a breakdown of all resolutions from the meeting that took place at Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere.
Rabiu-Okikiopusu explained that the budget, which was endorsed by every member of the Congress and the executive committee of LSFA, became imperative due to the large number of clubs in Lagos State and the huge array of activities they must embark on in the 2024/2025 season.
Rabiu-Okikiopusu added: “It has never happened before, whereby a budget for the football season will be discussed on the floor of the Congress, and it was approved.
“So, it’s a good decision taken by the executive committee of the Lagos State Football Association and the Congress members, the highest decision-making body for football in the state.
“For them to pass the budget for the 2024/2025 season in the amount of N3.6bn, I think football will keep improving in Lagos State.”
He then urged corporate bodies, philanthropists and people in the private sector across Lagos State to rally round the LSFA and support their efforts in taking football to a higher level.
He reasoned further that football would grow faster and be more effective with far-reaching sponsorship packages covering various aspects of the round leather game.
“Our youth will keep being empowered, engaged, and more businesses will thrive.
“All what we can do is to keep telling the private sector that they can come in and partner with us, towards actualising and implementing this budget to the letter, for the good of football in Lagos State,” said Rabiu-Okikiopusu.
He also revealed that other resolutions at the AGA included formal welcome of Ikorodu City FC to the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL),
Smart City to the Nigerian National League (NNL) and congratulations to the female team for their heroics at the just concluded National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State.
