In order to promote sports and encourage youths to keep participating in sports, the Catholic Diocese of Lafia organizes the ‘Lafia Catholic School Games (LACASGA)’ which brings all catholic schools in the diocese together.
This year’s games was hosted at St Peter’s College in Garaku in Nasarawa State with 12 schools in the diocese including St Peters, St John Bosco, St John Agyaragu, Our Lady (OLA Akwanga), Our Lady of Fatima (Akwanga), Queens of Apostles, Lafia, St Kizito Duduguru, Madonna Girls, Lafia, Divine Love, Kuchikau participating in the games.
The games which had lots of events including football, basketball, high jump, Athletics, and the likes saw a thorough friendly competition among the schools.
Madonna Girls, Lafia making their third appearance at the event were the star of the games as they rallied to finish third on the medals table of the female’s events with 5 gold medals, 7 silver medals, and 4 bronze medals.
One of the most entertaining events was football which had lots of followers at the event, Madonna Girls finished second losing 1-0 in a well-contested final.
Reacting to their second-place finish in the football event, the coach of the football team, Jesse Adams said: “We thank God. It’s my first time here and we got this far, we will only keep going from here.”
“It was not an easy journey. I’m really proud of the girls and I am happy they came out here and showed their worth. I feel blessed to be a coach and we hope to build on the positives.” He concluded.
While Madonna Girls finished third on the medals table of the female events with 5 gold medals, St. Kizito Duduguru were crowned champion after winning the most gold medals – 7 while Our Lady, Akwanga finished second with 6 gold medals.
