Nigeria Boxing Board of Control (NBB of C) president, Dr. Rafiu Ladipo has rated the quality of home-based pugilists in the country very high, and reckons that they can hold their own against any opponent from across the world.
Speaking against the backdrop of forthcoming events in the domestic boxing sector, Ladipo, who is also the president-general of Nigerian Supporters Club, told sports247.ng that many talents exist in the land.
Ladipo stressed that Nigeria-based professional boxers are good and will effectively rival their counterparts from other parts of the world.
Ladipo, who recently returned from the Commonwealth Boxing Council (CBC) annual general meeting, however, admitted that Nigerian boxers based at home need more exposure for them to be ranked globally.
The NBB of C boss went on to declare that recent emergence of some Nigerian boxers in international rankings shows that they have the talent and quality to make their mark at any level across the world.
He stressed: “Our boxers that are based at home are very good, and can well hold their own against any opponent from anywhere in the world.
“The only matter is that, for our Nigeria-based boxers to be ranked high across the world depends on them getting more experience and adding to the level of exposure.
“All the same, the fact that we have seen some home-based boxers ranked along with foreign-based Nigerian boxers is a testament to what they can achieve if exposed to higher and better training facilities.”
