Ladan Bosso Faults Bayelsa United’s Disallowed Goal In Home Draw With Enugu Rangers

Bayelsa United of Yenagoa coach, Isah Ladan Bosso has faulted the referee’s decision to cancel what he believes was a flawless goal scored by his team in Sunday’s draw with Rangers International of Enugu.

Sports247 reports that the hosts eventually settled for a goalless draw at Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa and, though he also scolded his players for failing to convert many chances that came their way, Bosso insisted that the cancelled effort proved to be very decisive.

The under-20 national team, Flying Eagles’ former coach added: “We planned to get all the three points but, unfortunately, along the line, decisions from the officials stopped us. I believe there are ways of picking offside. How can you catch somebody offside when there’s a rebound?

“Offside says when the ball is last touched to you by your teammate. That ball was last touched by the goalkeeper. It was a deflection from the defender to the goalkeeper before my player scored the goal. So, why was it cancelled? That’s the first thing that caused this draw.”

Bosso then comported himself and went on to look beyond the controversial call by the referee, noting that he and his players just have to pull themselves together and seek victory in their next match, though they will be playing away.

He theorised, “Since Rangers could come here and pick a draw, we can go away and win. As far as I am concerned, even when the match was 0-0 in the first half, I believed my team would play better in the second half, and they did just that. Their performance in the second half was better than what they played in the first half. So, that is the outcome of coaching.”

Bosso concluded with a charge to his players to get better in front of goal, so that they would be able to bury all chances that come their way at any point in time during their subsequent matches.

“The issue now is that the players should begin taking their chances as early as possible. If we had taken those chances in the first half, and we had put in one or two goals, it would have been a different result. I saw those chances that were available for us,” Bosso lamented.
