Winner of the girls’ 800m race at the maiden LAB Memorial Athletics Classics, Honour Aboris has disclosed that her target is to break world records in several long-distance events.
She stated this after winning the middle-distance race in a time of 2:20secs, which she acknowledged she would improve on with more training and exposure.

Although she revealed to Sports 247 that it was only the third time she would run the 800m, Aboris said she already has several bronze medals in 1,500; 3,000; and 5,000 events from previous competitions.
The SS2 science student at Elepe Community Senior High School now wants to use the inaugural LAB Memorial Athletics Classics as a stepping stone for greater achievements for herself on the tracks.
She admitted that she will have to work harder in training to face tougher contests on the local, national, continental, and global terrains.
Aboris stated, “I’ve been in athletics now for two years, and I also do the marathon. This should be my third time running the 800m.
“The first time was in a school race at Ikorodu, and I happened to be among the first-placed runners.
“I’ve also participated in a series of athletics events, running in 800m; 1,500; 3,000; and 5,000. I placed third in all of them, except the one at Navy Town, where I managed to come second for the 3,000m race.
“This should be the third time I’m doing the 800m race and, to God’s glory, I came first.
“It makes me feel good, and I’ve realised that nothing good comes easy because, while I complain that training is hard, the competition is even harder.”
