In the heat of the 100 metres female race at the LAB Memorial Athletic Maiden Edition, a young athlete named Jemima Mafe made her mark. Despite facing stiff competition from various schools, Mafe’s determination and passion for athletics shone through.
Jemima Mafe, who has always harbored an interest in athletics, was thrilled when her school was invited to participate in the competition. “I was happy,” she said, reflecting on her motivation to compete.
Although she had high hopes of winning, Mafe finished fourth in the race. While this result initially brought disappointment, it did not dampen her spirit. “I thought I’m going to win but when I came fourth I thought I’m still going to run 100 meters, which I’m still going to run 100 meters,” she shared.
This setback did not deter Jemima Mafe but instead fueled her determination to do better in the next round. “It didn’t make me give up, but it still encouraged me to make sure that in the next round, I’m going to do my best,” she affirmed.
Mafe’s experience at the competition has left her with valuable insights that she wishes to share with other young aspiring athletes. “I’ll tell them to trust in themselves, you can do this. Be confident, believe in yourself and never give up,” she advised.
