Kwara United and Niger Tornadoes game in the North-Central Derby in the Matchday One fixtures of Ogunjobi Gold Cup Tourney end in stalemate.
The derby played on Thursday at the Kwara State Sports Complex lived up to it hype as both teams had their goalkeepers to thank for the top class saves they made in the first half.
It should have been 1-1 within 12 minutes as but both goalkeeper, Lucky Jimoh of Tornadoes and Segun Fatuwase of Kwara United each pulled the best of saves to the amusement of Ilorin fans.
On the quarter hour mark of the game, Thomas Adeshina should have scored the first goal on one-on-one but Jimoh was brave enough to put the ball an inch wide from his goal post.
In the 42nd minute, Fatuwase made an acrobatic save from a deflected cross to keep it all square in the half.
The second half didn’t see much of goal scoring chances as both played with caution owing to the rain.
Yusuf Abdulsalam could have stolen the evening scoring what should have been the winning goal for Kwara United in the added time as his effort from a set-piece hit the Tornadoes woodwork as the tie ended 0-0.
Friday fixtures will see Alabelewe FC take on Remo Stars in the first game of MatchDay 2 at 8am.
FC Ebedei and Tornadoes will be aiming for the maximum 3points as they lock horns at 10am.
Kwara fans will be anxious to drum support for their team as they host Nationwide League One side, FC Yobo at 2pm.
The star game will see defending champions, Sunshine Stars host Cynosure FC at 4pm.
