Kwara United Edges Nasarawa United 1-0 In Hard-Fought North Central Derby

In an intense North Central derby clash, Nasarawa United fell to a frustrating 0-1 defeat against Kwara United on Sunday at the Lafia City Stadium.

Despite dominating play and creating numerous chances, the home side could not break through Kwara United’s steadfast defense, leaving fans disappointed as their team slipped further down the league standings.

The match began with energy and high expectations from both sides, but Kwara United’s former player, Emmanuel Ogbole, silenced the Lafia crowd with a goal in the first half, putting his team ahead 1-0.

Nasarawa United attempted to respond with persistent attacks, as players like Anas Yusuf, Chinonso Okonkwo, and Kabir Balogun tested Kwara’s defense.

However, Afonja Warriors’ goalkeeper Nurudeen Badmos proved an insurmountable barrier, denying United’s attempts to equalize.

The pressure intensified when Kwara United was reduced to ten men after defender Victor Adeoye received his second yellow card in the 69th minute.

With the numerical advantage, Nasarawa United pressed even harder, pushing forwards in search of the equalizer. Yet, Kwara’s resolute defending kept the scoreline intact, as they clung to their slim lead despite mounting pressure from the hosts.

The loss further dented Nasarawa United’s campaign, pushing them down to 18th position on the league table with just 12 points from eleven games, while Kwara United advanced to 11th place with 14 points.

Nasarawa United’s coach, Kabir Dogo, acknowledged the frustration but remained optimistic, stating, “We played well but didn’t take our chances. We have to accept the result and focus on bouncing back in our next game.”

Kwara United’s coach, Tunde Sanni, expressed relief and gratitude for the hard-fought victory, noting, “This is a compensation from God. We’ve been close to winning away games, and today we did. Nasarawa United is a good team, but the pressure got to them, and we capitalized on it.”

Nasarawa United now turns its sights to an away match against Akwa United, hoping to reclaim momentum in their turbulent season.
