The fortunes of local Nigerian footballers in recent times have seemingly suffered glaring neglect due to what as been described as unprofessional conducts by a topmost football administrator.
In a chat with journalists, the Chairman of Kwara United football club, Kunbi Titiloye, lamented the dearth of professionalism in Nigerian football.
The former administrator of Abuja Football College and Kwara Football Academy, attributed the apparent misfortunes of the average local Nigerian footballer to what he described as lack of ambitions and satisfaction with mediocrity.
While acknowledging the abundance of talented players in the local league, he emphasised that the players need to be professional, just as Nigerian football need finances to train and retrain the coaches.
He further stressed the need to also change the mindset of the average Nigerian footballer, who believes football is all about godfatherism.
” Our footballers should eschew the idea of taking the game for granted. They would get money from a club and then move to another club. Unfortunately, before they realise it, age would have caught up with them.
” However, with the introduction of young and dynamic football coaches into our leagues, I believe, very soon, we shall get to the promised land,” he remarked gleefully.
