Kwara United arrived back in Nigeria in the early hours of today, with the two batches landing at 4.30am and 6.30am respectively, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, from Casablanca.
The team left Berkane for Casablanca yesterday, before boarding both the Air Maroc and Qatar Airlines, from the capital city of the North African country.
Kwara United FC lost 2-0 to RS Berkane on Saturday, to bring the aggregate scores against the CAF Confederation Cup defending champions and the Champion of Champions in Africa Inter-club competition to 3-3, and losing out on away goal rule.
Speaking with the press after returning to Nigeria, the Chairman of the club, Kumbi Titiloye commended the state government for the support, adding that it offered the team the opportunity to learn a lot on the continental stage.
According to him, Kwara United FC last participated in the competition as far back as the 2006/2007 season, and coming back to that stage 15 years after, and squaring up against the defending champions with a three-all aggregate result means a lot.
He thanked the state Governor, Malam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for the understanding and support, not only to Kwara United FC but for sports development in general, in Kwara and Nigeria.
Kumbi Titiloye equally thanked the State Sports Commission, Supporters and Fans of the Club, well wishers and lovers, especially all those who took time and resources out to support the team’s continental campaign.
He specifically commended the All Progressive Congress (APC) Kwara Central Senatorial candidate, Mallam Salihu Mustapha, the Special Adviser on Sports Matters, Mallam Attahiru Ibrahim and others, who supported both finacially and morally.
He said that even though the target was to reach the Group Stage of the competition, the challenges of doing so was enormous, adding that the club has learnt a great lesson which they hope to deploy in future challnges.
The team is expected to return to Ilorin, to continue preparations for the forthcoming 2022/2023 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
The team was received at the Airport by the Protocol Officer, Abdulrazaq Ola Aluko
