A former Gubernatorial aspirant in Kwara State in the last general election, Ambassador Yahaya Seriki has promised to support and promote the development of football at the grassroots level.
Seriki, who was a special guest of honor at the final of the Youngest football Stars club championship on Sunday 20th of December expressed the belief that active participation in sports will eliminate social vices among the youth.
Describing the competition, he noted that football which has been misconstrued as a recreational activity in the past has now assumed the status of a business endeavor worth investing in.
He further assured the organizer of his support towards promoting the game adding that such an initiative will help lessen violence tendencies among the populace.
In his own remarks, another political figure, Comrade Musbau Esinrogunjo who commended the organizer of the competition stressed the importance of football as a unifying factor and also pledge his continued support for the tournament.
With Sunmade Omotolani blowing the Fuji genre at the sideline of the match, the final, which had Team north defeating Team west in the 5-a-side game by 4 goals to 2 featured a riveting soccer exhibition to the delight of the fans and spectators alike.
The two teams emerged finalists after preliminaries involving many other selected teams within the club.
The chairman of Youngest Stars Amosa Abdulrasaq, who is popularly known as Toska, appreciated all those who contributed to the success of the programme saying the support has been helpful in meeting up their demands.
Amosa revealed that the tournament was put together to promote the round leather game among the youth and particularly the adults.
Guests at the final event include Kwara State Road Traffic Management Authority (KWARTMA), Honourable Bolakale Oloje, Sportspro News Publisher and ace sportscaster, Bayour Issah, Kwara United Assistant Coach, Taofeek Babatunde, Alhaji Moshood Emperor among other top dignitaries.
