Kwara State Set to Host 1st Honour Independent National Baseball League

No fewer than 10 states, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), will converge in Ilorin for the inaugural edition of the Honour Independent National Baseball League. The tournament is scheduled to take place from April 6th to 12th, 2025, at the Kwara State Baseball and Softball Park, Adewole, Ilorin.

Speaking at a press conference on Saturday at the Taiwo Awoniyi Media Sports Centre, SWAN Secretariat, the Vice Chairman of the Kwara State Baseball and Softball Association, Mr. Yinka Adewusi, confirmed Kwara as the host state. Other participating states include Lagos, Delta, Ekiti, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Niger, Oyo, Bayelsa, and the FCT.

Mr. Adewusi revealed that the competition will follow a round-robin league format in the first phase, with the top five teams advancing to the second phase in August 2025. He commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for refurbishing the Kwara State Baseball Park, describing it as the best in Africa and emphasizing its readiness for the competition.

Additionally, the Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Mallam Sani Duro, confirmed that the park has been adequately prepared for the event. He also praised the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Mallam Bola Magaji, for his unwavering support in ensuring a successful tournament.

The tournament will feature a grand prize of ₦300,000 for the champions, while the second and third-placed teams will receive ₦200,000 and ₦100,000, respectively, along with medals and trophies.

Other dignitaries present at the press conference included the Secretary of the Association, Comrade Abdullateef Oloyin, and Opeyemi Awojare, who also expressed their enthusiasm for the upcoming competition
