The Kwara state government has revealed plans to renovate the Indoor Sports Hall of the state stadium, transforming it into an ultra-modern sports facility at a cost of N2.06 billion.
The announcement was made by Bola Magaji, the executive chairman of the State Sports Commission, during a meeting with sports writers from the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) in Ilorin.

Magaji highlighted the neglect suffered by the indoor sports hall under previous administrations, which led to its deterioration. He emphasized Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq’s commitment to restoring the stadium to its former glory and stated that the renovation project is expected to be completed within 12 months.
The renovated indoor sports hall is envisioned to accommodate up to 25 different sports, making it a versatile and multifunctional venue. Magaji outlined plans to introduce innovative features and upgrades to the facility, aiming to transform it into a hub for local and international sports tournaments.
He expressed confidence that the renovated hall would attract increased tourism and economic activity, benefiting businesses, offices, and hotels in the state capital and surrounding areas.
Magaji emphasized the importance of the project in promoting sports development and youth empowerment. He emphasized the government’s goal of providing opportunities for young people to engage in sports activities as a means to steer them away from negative influences such as drugs, thuggery, and hooliganism. Magaji reiterated the state government’s commitment to utilizing sports as a tool for social change and fostering positive values among the youth.
Furthermore, Magaji assured that the renovated indoor sports hall would serve as a venue for both state and national sports festivals, providing a platform for athletes to showcase their talents and compete at various levels. Overall, the renovation project represents a significant investment in sports infrastructure and youth development in Kwara state.
