The Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission (KSC), Coach Bola Mogaji, has advised sports administrators and coaches to carefully plan their calendars to optimize athletes’ performance during the fasting period.
As Muslims worldwide observe Ramadan—a time of fasting and spiritual reflection—many Christian denominations also engage in fasting, which can impact the physical endurance required for sporting activities.

Coach Mogaji emphasized that a well-structured training and competition schedule is essential to maintaining athletes’ productivity during this period.
“Fasting can affect performance and lead to reduced efficiency if the sports calendar is not planned with the fasting period in mind,” he stated.
However, he noted that Islam provides flexibility for athletes, allowing them to postpone fasting and make up for it during the off-season when necessary.
Coach Mogaji made these remarks on Thursday while breaking fast (Iftar) with members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) at the Kwara Football Academy (KFA).
The event was attended by key sports stakeholders, including the Chairman of the Kwara State Football Association (KWSFA), Hon. Idris Musa Abdullahi, General Manager of Kwara United FC, Mal. Bashir Badawiy, Director of Football at ABS FC, High Chief Alloy Chukwuemeka, Director of Sports at KSC, Mall. Ibrahim Bako, and other dignitaries.
