Kwara Aiteo Cup: ABS thrash Offa FC

Abubakar Bukola Saraki (ABS) Ilorin FC are through to the final of the Kwara Aiteo Cup after a 3-0 win over Offa FC, sports247.ng learns

 

The match was played at the Kwara Stadium Complex, Ilorin on Thursday.

Offa FC had defeated La Planet Academica 2-1 in the early stages of the competition to set today’s date with ABS Ilorin FC which had earlier been drawn bye.

A defender, Emeka Ewendu, who was asked by ABS Technical Adviser Abubakar Hassan, to lead the Saraki Boys’ attack put the Nigeria National League (NNL) side ahead in the 18th minute with a perfect finish.

Youngsters, David Okoromi had beaten his markers and found Ewendu in the Offa FC’s goal area, chested the ball forward to lay it before himself and fired from a close range.

Okoromi would have doubled the lead one minute later for ABS when he connected a beautiful cross inside the Offa FC’s box but he nodded wide.

Shola Abdulraheem went close in the 36th minute when he called Lukman Shittu into action, his shot stings the Offa FC goalkeeper before he parried to corner.

Ebuka Anaekwe doubled the lead for ABS in the 41th minute with a beautiful finesse.

He collected the ball with a tidy first touch, before sending a powerful drive toward goal, his initial shot hit the post before crossing the goal line for the second goal.

ABS resumed the 2nd half more determined and dictated most of the proceedings allowing Offa FC to their half occasionally.

ABS goalkeeper, Moses Chima was called to action in the 51th minute from an Abdullateef Olaniyi’s brilliant shot.

The attacker had a beautiful first touch before dribbling his marker, picked his angle from the far right but the ABS goalkeeper was up to the task as he parried to corner.

ABS FC’s Godwin Abah would have scored an own goal in the 55th minute but his clearance luckily for him went inches away from goal.

Okoromi made an impactful run into the opposition’s box before his curling shot went into the roof of the net to make it 3-0 for ABS in the 65th minute.

He was close again in the 90th minute of play but Offa FC goalkeeper did brilliantly to parry for a corner kick.

The result means ABS will play Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), side Kwara United In the final on Saturday.

It would be recalled that Kwara United defeated Kwara Football Academy (KFA), 1-0 on Wednesday to book a place in the final.
