In addition to the NFL playoffs, there are a lot of other exciting developments in the NFL. The awards are starting to be given, and the NFL All-Pro team has been released. There were very few doubts on this year’s team. Every player deserved the right to make the team, and the writers were very accurate.
The team was headlined by two unanimous First Team selections in Cooper Kupp and Davante Adams. Both players were huge for their respective teams this season, which is why both franchises are in the playoffs.
The Unanimous All-Pro Selections
There were five All-Pro selections on the team. Kupp and Adams were joined by Jonathan Taylor, T.J. Watt, and Aaron Donald. Taylor is the only unanimous selection that did not lead his team to the playoffs.
The Colts were defeated in the final week of the regular season by the Jaguars, which cost them the chance at a playoff spot. The one player on this list who always seems to make the unanimous selections is Donald.
Donald has been fantastic over the course of his career. He will no doubt be enshrined in Canton when his time in the league does come to an end. He is a three-time Defensive Player of the Year and made the All-Pro team seven times in eight seasons.
He tied the NFL record for sacks in a season with 22.5. Adams made the team for the second time in his career, and Kupp is new to the team. The same status applies to Taylor, who burst onto the scene this season behind a fantastic Colts offensive line.
After the team was released, Watt spoke about being a unanimous selection. He said, “Obviously, it’s an honor to be recognized, and it wouldn’t be possible without my coaches and incredible teammates, but the awards and accolades aren’t what drives me. It’s competing with and for them, this franchise, and this city, that drives me. My coaches and teammates are the people that put me in a position to make a splash, help us win, and this recognition honestly doesn’t come without them.”
Other Members
Some of the other players that made the team were Darius Leonard, Jalen Ramsey, Cam Heyward, Myles Garrett, and Kevin Byard. All of these players have made at least one All-Pro team in their NFL career.
The other 14 members of the squad were new members of the team. The players on this list were Trent Williams, Mark Andrews, Tristan Wirfs, Joel Bitonio, Deebo Samuel, Micah Parsons, De’Vondre Campbell, Trevon Diggs, Jordan Poyer, AJ Cole, Braxton Berrios, Devin Duvernay, J.T. Gray, and Luke Rhodes.
Trent Williams was ecstatic about making the team. He received his All-Pro nod for the first time despite anchoring tons of offensive lines throughout his career. When he received the news, he was emotional.
He said, “I do feel more comfortable than I’ve ever felt. I do feel like I’m as strong as I’ve ever been. I do feel my football IQ is probably better than it’s ever been. As a football player, as a competitor, every year you want to be better than the last year. That’s my goal and always has been my goal. So if this year is better than last year, I hope so. That’s the plan.”
The other surprise on the list was Micah Parsons, who made the team in his rookie season. He said, “I think it’s an extraordinary honor. It speaks to the work and the position the Cowboys put me in. I think it’s just a true blessing. It just makes you want to go harder.”
