The aspirations of Kogi State doing well at the National Sports Festival have been put down to unflinching support and untiring efforts by their governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, in seeing that the sector expands daily.
Sports247.ng can report that this much was revealed by the chairman of Kogi State Sports Council, Honorable Isa Abdulmaliki Dolly, who added that the state intends surpassing its record of 2012 in Lagos.
He said Kogi state is progressing in sports development due to the efforts of Governor Bello, who he said has been very supportive.
Dolly also charged Kogi athletes to be good ambassadors of the state by exhibiting spirit of sportsmanship before, during and after the festival.
He disclosed that the athletes were in camp for two week in order for the coaches to monitor the performance of the team.
Dolly added: “The governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has been very supportive, and he has invested heavily in the sports sector.
“He supported the state to the National Youth Games and National Championships.
“Other states sees Kogi state as a stumbling block at events, and I am optimistic they will do so at the festival.
“The athletes were camped for two weeks and this was to monitor the progress of their. The wrestlers have been bringing glory to the state proud in the past.
“I know with the kind of preparations, the state will rank among the top ten states at the 2018 National Sports Festival in Abuja.”
