As Nigeria’s Flying Eagles secured their spot at the 2025 Africa U20 Cup of Nations following a 3-1 comeback victory over Niger Republic, Franklin Oluwasegun, President of Kirra Football Club and owner of Kiraa TV and Kiraa Farm, lauded the team’s achievements.
Speaking with Sports247 shortly after the match, Oluwasegun celebrated the team’s resilience and strategic prowess, highlighting the essential roles played by both the technical staff and players.
“I must commend the technical school of this team,” Oluwasegun began, his pride evident as he shared his thoughts. “Watching this team from their very first game, it’s clear to see the influence of the coaching staff. This team has shown incredible discipline, cohesion, and adaptability, and that is highly commendable.”
Oluwasegun acknowledged the Flying Eagles’ ability to handle high-stakes scenarios, pointing to their calm comeback after falling behind to Niger Republic in the opening nine minutes at Stade Kegue, Lome. “Beating Ghana in the final will not be easy, but if the players stay focused and determined, I have no doubt that victory will be ours,” he said with confidence, looking forward to Nigeria’s clash with their West African rivals.
Reflecting on specific moments in the match, Oluwasegun praised forward Clinton Jephta, whose two goals were instrumental in Nigeria’s triumph. Jephta’s first, a stunning strike in the 35th minute, leveled the game just minutes after Niger had come close to doubling their lead. “That goal was pure talent and teamwork,” he remarked. “You could see the effort of every player in that build-up.”
Jephta’s second goal early in the second half put Nigeria in control, and Oluwasegun extended credit to goalkeeper Ifeanyi Harcourt, who made crucial saves to maintain the lead. Olalekan Alonge’s added-time goal sealed the deal, propelling the team to the final with momentum and high spirits.
“This team has what it takes,” Oluwasegun concluded, his enthusiasm sparking hope among Nigerian fans. “Today, we can all see the strength, skill, and commitment of our young players. Let’s bring that trophy home!”
