President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation, Engr. Ahmadu Musa Kida, has extended heartfelt congratulations to the Nigeria National Women Basketball Team, the D’Tigress, following their impressive 75-62 victory over Australia at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
In his statement, Kida lauded the victory as both historic and inspirational, noting that no Nigerian basketball team had won a match in the Olympics for two decades prior to this game. He praised the D’Tigress for their resilience and determination, highlighting their success against the world’s third-ranked team.
“Nigerians are happy and joyous over this victory, and it is indicative of the never-say-die attitude of the average Nigerian. It’s also a testament to the unrelenting and concerted efforts of the board of NBBF to place the country in its pride of place in the comity of sporting nations, and Basketball especially,” Kida remarked.
He emphasized that the team would not rest on their laurels. The remarkable performance has positioned them strongly for further challenges, with the D’Tigress set to face the host nation, France, in their next group game on Thursday. Despite the expected support for France, Kida remains optimistic about the D’Tigress’s chances.
“The spirited and awesome performance of the team against Australia has set them up well for the future. We anticipate a tough contest against France, but with their determination, we believe the D’Tigress will prevail,” Kida concluded.
