Goals from Emmanuel Goru and Christian gave KG Sports a comfortable victory over Arewa FC in the Godsent Israel Football Tournament at the Agbor Township Stadium on Thursday evening.
The rejuvenated KG Sports boys started the game lack lustre as Arewa”s physical play and long ball tactics unsettled Coach Adeyinka Ogundeji side.
The first half ended 0-0 with both sides barely creating chances.
KG Sports took control of the game in the second half after an intense first half by the Arewa Artilleries,
Coach Adeyinka Stuck to to 4-2-3-1 formation which helped in dealing with the opponents long balls and hence dominated in the second half by deploying a high press mid-block for the first 15 minutes which say the KG boys being able to break Arewa defense in just 7 minutes into second half, with beautiful possession game before Jethro set up Emmanuel Goru for the curtain raiser.
From that stage it was all KG Sports in control the game and in the 78th minute Amos Edoh set Christian up for the second goal after a beautiful switch of play with Elijah.
KG Sport’s Skipper Joseph Ukah thought he had put the icing on the cake with.a beautiful goal scored but saw his efforts ruled offside by the assistant referee as the game ended 2-0…
“My boys were nervous in the first half and the physical threat of the Arewa boys didn’t allow us to play as we want to however in the second half we took control and won the match with two beautiful goals, we shall see what is up next next us” Coach Ogundeji said moments after the final whistle
In other games played, Starpeak shocked defending champions big Daddy FC a 4-1 whitewashing while Winners FC defeated Selected All Stars by 1-0. Rainbow FC booked their place in he quarter finals with a lone goal victory over Golden boys FC. The match between Ultimate FC and Ika Lions was fierce and ended 3-2 in favour of the George Nkem Ultimate boys.
The final match of the first round fixtures between Ihuyase and Green Rangers will be played on Friday to determine the last spot for for Quarter finals pairings.
