Ossai Ifeanyi’s 66th minute Strike earns KG Sports Academy all three points in the Week 2 Encounter against visiting Igho FC in the Bet9ja-DFA State League.
It was the Pride of Agbor’s Second Consecutive victory in the Bet9ja State League after their week one 3-1 Triumph over CASI Academy last week.
Igho FC Came into the match on the back of their week 1 lose in the hands of Young Shall grow and were looking to make amends as they took the game to the KG Boys from the blast of the whistle.
Coach Lucky Lansana had made a wholesome change to the side that won the week one encounter as Towering Defender Ossai Ifeanyi replaced Jude Obi- who is away to his NYSC Duties-, Amos Obogwu came in for Miracle Clifford in attack and Micheal Okonjo took the place of Peter Wisdom in the Midfield.
KG Sports Academy soaked the pressure and could have put their noses in front when Striker Godsent Benedict saw his efforts hit the Upright and went wide.
Both Sides entertained the fans with their football artistry but neither could break the duck as they went into the break level at halftime.
Coach Lansana made a double change in the 55th minute bringing on Dimunitive Machido Sule for Enterprising midfield Maestro Praise “Small witch”Odugbo and Otuya Kessington for Marvelous Otutu and the changes added more bite to the Gadaffi boys.
With 24 minutes left on the clock, KG Sports Academy created a half chance and in the ensuring Miley Defender Ossai Ifeanyi toe-poked the ball into an empty net to send the KG Sports Academy Fans to a frenzy. The goal proved to be the difference between the two sides.
The win extends the Academy boy’s lead at the top of the table with 6 points from the matches while Igho is still in search of their first point in the campaign.
“It was a hard-fought victory, I was jittery all through the game as we really couldn’t find the rhythm to bury the game early however when the goal came, it was a souting balm and we are happy for the 3 points” Coach Lansana Dukaray Stated
Sportsng247.ng caught up with KG Director Dr. Ken Gadaffi from his base in Cambodia, “I am so happy and these boys deserved it to be commended. We have been working with this team for the past two years with only a few recent additions” Ken Gadaffi said.
“We have our moments in the first half and we could have scored some goals especially when Godsent hit the post. Igho controlled the second half, but they did not have any real chance,” he added.
Chairman of KG Sports Academy, Rtd MWO Gabriel Nwadiolu, who was watching courtside at the Agbor Township Stadium, congratulated the KG Sports Academy players on their hard-earned victory.
“Igho Academy Sapele is a good side, but football is football and I am so proud of the team for winning. I hope they can continue to get the job done like this until the final,” he said.
