Emerging as Africa’s only representative after Nigeria and Cameroon withdrew due to visa complications, Kenya is advancing confidently after securing a place in the tournament’s next round. The team clinched two crucial victories, first with a 2-0 win against Peru, followed by a hard-fought 1-0 victory over England.

This tournament, organized by the World Amputee Football Federation (WAFF), has gathered 12 teams from around the globe to celebrate talent, diversity, and the resilience of athletes in the face of physical adversity.

Kenyan players have been particularly inspiring, not just for their success on the field, but for their symbolic role as representatives of Africa.

A Kenyan team official reflected on the journey to Colombia, stating, “Our journey was not without challenges, but we are here to show the world what Africa can achieve in amputee football.”

Despite the logistical setbacks faced by Nigeria and Cameroon, Kenya’s achievements in the group stage have drawn attention back home and worldwide, highlighting the team’s dedication and skill.

The tournament itself marks a historic step for women’s amputee football, emphasizing WAFF President Óscar Andrés Pino’s mission to provide “a platform where athletes can triumph over adversity and inspire a global audience”.

With Haiti next on their schedule, Kenya is set to continue their journey, aiming not only to bring pride to their country but to leave a legacy for African amputee athletes on the world stage.

Their performances serve as an inspiration to aspiring athletes across Africa, proving that obstacles, including physical limitations and logistical challenges, can be overcome on the road to success.
