Kelecho Iheanacho Downplays Widespread Reports About His Impending Exit From Sevilla Of Spain

Sevilla of Spain attacker, Kelechi Iheanacho has downplayed recent reports of a likely exit for him from the modest La Loga side in this January’s transfer window.

Sports247.ng gathered that, with only a single goal to his name and some shaky bit-part roles for him in Sevilla’s squad since his arrival from Leicester City of England last summer, speculation is rife about a likely exit for ‘Senior Man’ later this month.

However, the 2013 FIFA U17 World Cup gold medalist and most valuable player is not showing any anxiety or frustration, as ‘Kelele’ says he is still hopeful of finally settling down to achieve great things at Sevilla.

He used the examples of his days in the English Premier League with Manchester City and Leicester City, where he recalled how he began with doubts over his chances in their squads but went on to enact great memories with both.

Iheanacho recounted, “So many people were telling me that I was not going to make it at Manchester City, because it’s a big team with so many big players.

“They said it was not really good for a young player to go there. But, obviously, I made a decision with my family to go there, and it was a great journey for which I thank God.

“After that, moving from Manchester to the Midlands was different for me as well. A lot of strikers were there, and I had to work my way through. We won a few trophies together there, and I made many memories there as well.

“The owners are fantastic people and a lovely family. Their relegation was not a good thing, but we all took it as an experience in life, and we took it by the chin.

“We had to fight back, and we did get back up. It was a big achievement as well to get back up there.”
Iheanacho, who was produced by Taye Football Academy of Owerri and first played abroad on loan of Columbus Crew of USA, hinted that the tough days he faced at his previous clubs taught him how to confront challenges in his career and enthused that it will also help him overcome all odds at Sevilla.

“Moving to Sevilla was another journey for me. They have a very great culture, and it’s a great team with a lot of European football experience.

“I’m enjoying it a lot there at the moment; meeting new friends, and I have my Nigerian pal, Chidera Ejike, there as a brother.

“We are taking it one step at a time. Hopefully, the goals will start coming and hopefully it will be good for me,” enthused Iheanacho, who will now seek to impress Sevilla’s coach, Garcia Pimienta and the sporting director, Victor Orta when action resumes this weekend.
