Kayode: Shakhtar Donetsk have improved

Striker Olarenwaju Kayode believes Ukrainian Premier League outfit Shakhtar Donetsk have gradually improved as the season has progressed.

In his view, the number of games they have had to play recently due to their Champions League involvement has moulded Shakhtar into more of a team.

Shakhtar Donetsk are on top of the Ukrainian Premier League with 42 points after 15 round of games.

“Both the team and myself have improved a lot lately and what happened [in the recent 6-0 defeat] against Manchester City should not undermine all the good work we’ve done.

“We always go out to take something positive but we were aware it would be very difficult. Besides, most teams end up conceding a lot of goals there,” he told Sports247.ng.

The striker is in contention for Friday’s game with Lviv believes the international break came at just the right time.

“It’s been good in terms of allowing us to get some continuity into training sessions. With so many matches and all the travel we’ve not been able to prepare properly for games.

“Recently there have been some big matches and we have to improve on the level we’ve shown in them, which has been medium to high.”

The former Austria Vienna star says he is aware of the danger posed by Lviv.

“They are a team that has very clear ideas. No matter where they play they have a good philosophy and will be giving it their all against us.

“Even so, the way they play may well benefit us as they are a team that will not come to defend. All our next few games are going to be key,” he added.
