In a remarkable display of unity and sporting prowess, the grand finale of the Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) Youth Peace and Unity Football Competition 2022/2023 took place at the Rwang Pam Township Stadium in Jos.

The competition, organized by Major-General Abdulsalam Abubakar, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division, Jos, aimed to promote harmony, curb youth restiveness, and enhance security within the operational areas of OPSH, spanning Bauchi, Kaduna, and Plateau states.
The thrilling final match featured Kanke Lions FC of Plateau and Jama’a Local Government Authority FC of Kaduna State. Beyond the pursuit of football glory, this tournament sought to combat insecurity and cultivate mutual understanding among the vibrant youth populations of the three states.
Major-General Abubakar, in his post-competition remarks, emphasized the importance of unity in decision-making for the youth. He encouraged the young participants to prioritize unity and collaboration as they navigate their respective paths.
Representing the OPSH Commander, Brigadier-General A. A. Egbejule praised the tournament as a commendable initiative dedicated to building processes and fostering grassroots sports development in OPSH Joint Operation Areas.
He urged all residents to embrace harmonious coexistence, with a particular call to the youth to take the lead in ensuring peaceful, meaningful development across the states.
General Abubakar, addressing the audience, implored them to be ambassadors of peace and cautioned the youth against engaging in activities that might disrupt the tranquility of their communities.

In a thrilling climax, Kanke Lions FC of Plateau State emerged victorious, defeating Jama’a Local Government of Kaduna State.
Sanga Local Government secured the third position by triumphing over Tafawa Balewa Council of Bauchi.
The event’s highlights included the presentation of medals, cash prizes for the top three teams, and recognition for outstanding individuals who had distinguished themselves throughout the tournament.
This competition not only celebrated football excellence but also underscored the significant role sports can play in promoting unity and peace, particularly in regions where it is needed most.
