Ultimate Fighting Challenge (UFC) welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman of Nigeria has downplayed worries over the hernia operation he recently went through, as he said it was a just a measure to improve his ability, sports247.ng reports.
Uman stated with confidence that he will not be able to fight with 100% output, as against 30% he was able to give before getting surgery to treat a double hernia.
After undergoing the corrective procedure on Tuesday in Philadelphia, USA, Usman’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz said it was a joint-decision among everyone in the trailblazing champion’s camp.
The 31-year-old Usman, who later revealed that the surgery was on his midsection, said he will now be able to give his optimum best during his first title defence, ahead of which he admits he will have to get healthy.
Auchi, Edo State-born Usman, who won the UFC belt by defeating then title holder, Tyron Woodley in a unanimous decision on March 2, added that the operation was just for the best.
Usman said further on Instagram: “I needed to get it fixed so I can be back and ready to defend that belt.
“I’m going to clean the division absolutely, so I got to make sure I’m no longer 30 per cent. Got to make sure I get as close to 100 as I can.”
