The Kaduna State Ministry for Sports yesterday said it has concluded plans to develop sports facilities in 32 secondary schools across the state.
Speacial Adviser on Media to the Commissioner of Sports Development, Ismaila-Umaru Lere made the disclosure during a media briefing at the Media Centre, Ahmadu Bello Stadium (ABS), Kaduna.
Lere said developing such facilities is part of the state government efforts to revive school and grassroots sports in the state.
“We will develop sporting facilities in 32 schools across the state. We have identified the schools from each Senatorial zone and we are looking forward to procure equipments.
” As part of the mandate given to us by the state government, we are trying to revive school sports in order to identify athletes and develop programmes to enhance their progress.
“Schools like Sardauna Memorial College, Queen Amina College and Barewa College were given priority in the selection, with three per zone. Ministry of Education and Ministry of Sports are sharing the responsibility.
“We understand that some of the schools lack facilities due to encroachment and that is why we made a request and got approval,” he said.
According to him, the intervention is to bridge the huge deficit of sports infrastructure in schools across the state.
