Kaduna State Cycling Association, on Thursday, said it has introduced monthly cycling competition across the 23 local government areas in the state to discover new talents.
The association’s Head Coach, Samaila Usman, made the disclosure in an interview with NNA in Kaduna.
Usman said the aim of the competition is to expand the game and discover new talents that would represent the state at various competitions.
“In line with the mandate of the state government and the Ministry of Sports Development, the association has succeeded in introducing a monthly race for cyclists in the state.”
The official said the maiden competition for 2020 was held on the last Saturday of January while preparations had commenced for the second competition by the end of February.
“The first race was a trial and it went well and we are expecting the February edition to be more attractive as we are approaching another last Saturday of the month.
“We started with 60km in the first edition and we hope to increase until we cover 180 km.
“We intend to be doing it every last Saturday of the month, throughout the year, because such race would help cyclists enhance their performance,” Usman said.
According to him, cycling is easy to fit into one’s daily routine by riding to the shops, parks, schools or workplaces.
He appealed to stakeholders for support to ensure successful outing in national and international competitions.
“We are soliciting for your support to see this innovation continue in Kaduna state especially at the grassroots level.
“I am appealing that parents and other stakeholders support those who have a passion for cycling to join us and showcase their talent.
“We shall provide such prospecting athletes with professional coaches and technical officials to help them to achieve their dreams in cycling.”
