Real Sociedad have announced the signing of Umar Sadiq from U.D Almeria for a fee of €20 million plus add-ons, Sports247.ng reports.
The Nigerian international agreed to terms with Real Sociedad on a long-term contract until the ended of the 2027-28 season. He is a direct replacement for Alexander Isak who joined Newcastle from The White and Blues late last month.
“Real Sociedad has reached an agreement with UD Almería for the transfer of Sadiq Umar. La Real, in turn, has reached an agreement with the player until the end of the 27-28 season.
“He will wear number 25. The player arrived in Donostia this morning, underwent a medical examination at the Gipuzkoa Polyclinic and, in the afternoon, signed his new contract,” the club announced.
Sadiq joined Almeria from FK Partizan in 2020. In his two years with Rojiblancos, he made 84 appearances, scoring 43 goals and assisting on 19 occasions.
Sadiq helped Almeria to La Liga promotion from the Spanish second division last season. He netted 19 times and also received the club’s Player of the Season award for the 2020-21 campaign.
This season, the 25-year-old has already made three league appearances for Almeria. He has two goals, including the game-winning goal against Sevilla last weekend.
Sadiq will compete in the Europa League with Real Sociedad. The Basque club has been drawn in Group E alongside Manchester United, Sheriff Tiraspol, and Francis Uzoho’s Omonia Nicosia.
