With reports taking over the airwaves this morning that the NPFL 2019/2020 season had been concluded, the Nigerian Football Federation has told fans and clubs to be patient.
Earlier today, a statement from Alloy Chukwuemeka, executive secretary, chairman Club owners Association of Nigeria read that 17 out of 20 clubs voted for the league to be cancelled after an online poll was conducted.
The NFF, through its secretary-general, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi via its official twitter handle disclosed that consultations on how best to end the football season is on going.
“The Nigeria Football Federation has declared that wide consultation is still ongoing as to the format and pattern of foreclosing the 2019/2020 Football Season, including that of the Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL.”
“Reacting to widespread reports that a vast majority of club owners in the Nigeria Professional Football League had voted to end the season and therefore, the Points Per Game (PPG) principle would be adopted to determine Nigeria’s flagbearers in next year’s continental club competitions, NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, said that everyone should wait until after the ongoing consultations.”. The statement read.
Football leagues in the country had been postponed indefinitely since March.
