The Minister of Youth and Sports development, Sunday Dare has affirmed that the chances of the National Sports Festival, Edo 2020 to hold this year is minimal.
Edo 2020 was originally scheduled to hold between March and April but was indefinitely suspended because of the outbreak of the novel coronavirus pandemic.
Live on Channels television this morning, the minister noted that his ministry are in talks with the necessary bodies to see if anything can still happen.
“We are working with the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, the Health Ministry, and the NCDC to determine whether the National Sports Festival will happen in 2020. -We will be properly guided before we take a final decision.”
Earlier, it was reported that a new date in October was planned for the event by the sports ministry.
The National Sports Festival is the biggest sporting event in Nigeria attracting participation from all 36 states and the FCT.
