Newly appointed Deputy Coordinator of Nigeria Agenda, Nkechi Obi has revealed her heartfelt joy over the new position involving responsibilities and need for exemplary leadership as she takes up her role while also celebrating Democracy Day.
She said, “The critical thing we must appreciate is that democracy is a journey not a destination. The biggest proponent of democracy (the USA) is in the throes of a seismic eruption in spite of all their vaunted structures!. Two months of a pandemic that forced everybody indoors and all hell has broken loose!”
“Wherever there are primordial forced that remain unsettled, the democracy road will be rough. The concepts of equity and justice underlies any success in democracy. As long as those concepts are not practised, democracy will be observed more in it’s breach!”
“Leadership is also a key tenet of successful democratic rule, the ability to chart a vision that the people you lead can key into it and assist you in implementing. Without that kind of visionary leadership, the country will lurch from one misstep to the other,’ she emphasized.
Today we find ourselves with the opportunity of adding our little contributions towards the goal of a vibrant sports sector over the next 30 years. It’s a chance to put into the books all that we have been saying, all that we have heard others saying and all that we will still hear others say to us because if it’s only in this Sector we can make a change, let’s do it as our contribution to nation building! We are not here by chance. Providence may have placed us here now but it’s what we do with it that will determine if it was an error or an advantage that we are here now, Nkechi ended her charge.
