It was jubilation galore for the four teams who emerged winners at the just concluded 2020\2021 boys and girls U-20 Kensington Adebutu Cup which was held on Friday at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
The competition is sponsored by Sir Kensington Adebukunola Adebutu popularly known as Baba Ijebu.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic disease that broke out last year, the final could not hold as last and this year’s finals were played together at the main bowl of Teslim Balogun Stadium.
In the first female final played, Nova Queens defeated Femlex Angels 3-1, while Ultimate Strikers humbled Adeoba FC 2-1 to win the boys category.
In the 2021 finals, Flash Girls defeated Golden Girls 2-1, while Future Hero also defeated Bambam FC 3-2 on penalties after 3-3 at the regulation time.
All the finals lived up to expectations as fans, coaches, and football stakeholders applauded the finalists for their football artistry displayed throughout their encounters Some football fans said there are more talents discovered from the competition and urged the organizers to recommend the talented players to Lagos State Football Association.
Former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Femi Pedro commended the cup donor for sponsoring a football tournament in the last ten years and called on other sports philanthropists and corporate organizations to follow suit.
He said Nigeria can be excelled in international football tourneys if there are regular grassroots football competitions where more talents would be discovered for future national teams.
Cash prizes and gift items were given to the winners and outstanding players of the tournament.
