A visit to Igbogbo Stadium in Ikorodu by our reporter on Wednesday, 21 August 2024, saw workers working on site, putting in finishing touches to the sitting area while the synthetic grass has been laid with only the goal post is yet to be erected at the main bowl, though the pole was laying flat on the turf in the goal area.

The track has been laid as well as the stadium is wearing a beautiful look.

The changing room and sitting stands has been completed, it remains the seats to be fixed as well the interior equipment in the changing area yet to be fixed.

One of the supervisors on site confirmed that the progression of work on the arena is going to plan as they will meet up with the delivery date of January 6, 2024, when quizzed on when work will be completed in the stadium.

” We are working with scheduled delivery time , but over 90% of the work has been done , I can’t say if it will be ready this year but definitely we will not exceed the delivery date of January 6 2024 date ” said one of the Supervisors who pleaded anonymity.

The construction of the 800 sitting capacity started in 2022. It s one of the five stadiums under construction and reconstruction by the Lagos State to boost youth development and rapid Sports growth in the State as works are going on at the stadiums in Ifako, Agege, Gbagada and Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere.

We scooped that works will be completed on all of the Stadium before the end of January as they are due for commissioning by the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo Olu in February 2024.

Ikorodu United FC once played in the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, while Ikorodu City FC won the Lagos State FA and got promotion into the NPFL last season but will play their home game in Lagos Island at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, pending the completion of the Igbogbo facility.
