All seemed to be going according to plan for the Moses Aduku side early on, as they took the lead through Joy Jerry’s 14th minute powerful finish as she converted an assist from Omotoke Odueke into the net for the Queens from the Heartbeat state.
What appeared as through it would be a frustrating encounter for the ladies from Lafia in pursuit of a second win in the tournament after losing their second game 0-1 to Delta Queens of Asaba yesterday. Their dream of getting a second win was dashed this afternoon by Edo Queens as they suffered 1-0 defeat in the hands of the Benin based girls in their third match of the ongoing Sheroes pre-season tournament in Abuja.
For the resilient Edo Queens FC, this is the third successive win which goes to show that their potentiality and eye for the prestigious Sheroes Cup is not in doubt.
Though a tough game for both teams, Edo Queens’ attacks grew increasingly frantic throughout the duration of the tension soaked match. This encounter is important in the sense that it is seen as a rehearsal for both teams as they expected to confront tackle each other on the 30th of November, in the first leg of the NWFL for 2022/23 premiership season. Edo Queens will be away to Nasarawa Amazons at the Ape Aku Stadium Makurdi Benue State.
The fantastic display by some NWFL clubs participating in this pre season tournament have shown that teams are physically and mentally prepared for the coming season.
For Edo Queens, they have played three matches and winning all with nine points. In their opening game, they defeated Honey Badgers of Makurdi 2-0, went ahead to thrash Naija Ratels 2-0 in the second game and also pip Nasarawa Amazons 1-0 in the third game putting them on top with nine points from three matches.
They are also very confident of winning tomorrow’s match against Adamawa Queens FC.
Speaking to journalists immediately after the match, head of the technical crew of Edo Queens Moses Aduku said:
“We give glory to God for the victory, Nasarawa Amazons is a highly technical side, it was a tough game no doubt so I commend both teams for their discipline and good display of football artistry. It was a good game and excellent performance from both sides.”
“We for me I always believe in one game at a time, this one is gone, remember also that it is a pre-season competition, we don’t really have time to prepare but I must tell you that the players are giving their best as far as this competition is concern. Tomorrow is another day for us, we have a date to keep with Adamawa Queens, they are equally a good side, no team is a push over, we are all here to access, evaluate see the level of preparations for the new NWFL season which I understand will commence on the 30th of this month. So far so good I like what I’m seeing here. We just pray for the best.”
