In a recent development, the Nigeria National League (NNL) has taken disciplinary action against Joy Cometh coach Jide Oguntuase and the club’s general manager Segun Ajiroba.
The NNL has imposed a four-match ban on coach Jide Oguntuase for his deliberate attempt to distract their NNL final fixture against Ijebu United. Furthermore, the club’s general manager, Segun Ajiroba, has also been banned by the disciplinary committee for his involvement in the incident.
The incident took place at the Otunba Dipo Dina Stadium in Ijebu Ode just last week. It appears that during the match, coach Jide Oguntuase engaged in actions that were deemed intentional and intended to disrupt the flow of the game. As a result, the NNL has decided to take swift action and penalize the coach for his behavior. Additionally, the general manager, Segun Ajiroba, was also found to be involved in the incident and has been banned accordingly.
In addition to the bans imposed on the coach and the general manager, Joy Comeths have been fined a substantial amount of N1,000,000 (One Million naira) for abandoning the match. The decision to abandon the match is likely related to the actions of coach Jide Oguntuase and the subsequent disruption caused. Such abandonment goes against the principles of fair play and the NNL has taken a strong stance by imposing this fine.
As a result of the disciplinary action, Ijebu United has been awarded the victory in the match, receiving three points and three goals. This decision is in line with standard protocol when a match is abandoned or disrupted due to external factors that impede fair play.
The NNL’s decision to impose bans and fines highlights their commitment to upholding the integrity and spirit of the game. By penalizing those responsible for deliberate disruptions, they aim to maintain a fair and competitive environment for all teams and players involved. Such measures serve as a reminder to all individuals and clubs that unsporting behavior will not be tolerated and will be met with appropriate consequences.
It is hoped that this incident and the subsequent disciplinary action will serve as a deterrent against similar misconduct in the future, promoting a higher standard of sportsmanship and fair play within the Nigeria National League.
