Nigerian-born British world heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Olaseni Oluwafemi Joshua has revealed that he prefers staying modest in everything he does while preparing for a major fight.
Sports247.ng can report that ‘AJ’ confirmed as much while throwing public light on his personal trappings heading into the June 1 title fight against Jarrell ‘Big Baby’ Miller of America.
It will be Joshua’s debut fight in God’s Own Country, and the Brit is not allowing any distractions affect his focus on the big day at Madison Square Garden, as he is a man of simple pleasures during training camp.
While Floyd Mayweather loves to flaunt their fleet of flashy cars and mansions, Joshua prefers a more humble life at a modest abode in the weeks before his next fight night.
The IBF, WBO and WBA heavyweight king, therefore, says he does not see anything wrong in having worn chairs and outdated fittings for his living room, veranda and kitchen.
The way he has done before winning gold at London 2012 Olympics, ‘AJ’ is lying low in Sheffield, where he trains at the GB boxing base alongside some future stars and lives in the weeks before going Stateside.
Though Joshua is believed to have earned close to £100m so far in his unbeaten career, he still lives in a cosy, two-bedroom flat as his camp.
‘This is where it goes down,’ Joshua says in the video as he welcomes the cameras into his home.
‘You’ve probably noticed the vintage seats, we’ve had these seats in here for about the last seven years,’ he says.
‘They’re comfortable, they work, I can relax… it’s what I need so there is no need to change it.’
