Nigerian-born British boxing champion of the world, Anthony Olaseni Oluwafemi Joshua is back in training, following a long yuletide holiday in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Sports247.ng gathered that, after relaxing in the Dubai sun, catching up with two football starts, Cristiano Ronaldo and Robin Van Persie in the process, ‘AJ’ returned to his old gym for training, while the search for his next opponent continues.
Joshua, who has made huge improvements over the past 12 months in his footwork and has continued to focus on that aspect of his boxing, was at Finchley Boxing Club, where he began as a lanky 18-year-old.
He posted a video on his Instagram of him working on his movement and defence on Sunday, as he shadow boxed and worked on his footwork in the ring during a training session.
Joshua has reverted back to working on the basics as he awaits news about his next opponent, while also working on his defence during the Sunday session at Finchley Boxing Club.
The Brit is just ticking over in the gym at the moment as his team continue to work on finding him a suitable opponent for his next outing at Wembley on April 13.
Securing a fight with either WBC champion Deontay Wilder or Tyson Fury was high on Joshua’s list but it appears he will have to wait to get his crack at the other two major players in boxing’s blue-ribbon division.
Fury’s promoter Frank Warren revealed earlier this week a deal for Fury and Wilder to fight in a rematch is nearing completion with Las Vegas being touted as a possible venue to stage the event.
The unified champion is yet to secure a deal to fight anyone at Wembley Stadium on April 13, while a rematch with Dillian Whyte, who has more than earned his stripes with nine successive victories since losing to Joshua back in 2015, seems the world champion’s likeliest next move.
Whyte, though, complained, saying: “It’s very unlikely that I’ll be fighting AJ in April. I just received a stupid offer from him after waiting for it since October.
“There has been a first offer but it is utterly ridiculous, a lot less than what I made for [Dereck] Chisora, I think they only made the offer to cover themselves, they are not serious about it.”
