All talk about Sunderland want-away striker, Josh Maja joining Crystal Palace mioght be a ruse after all, as The Eagles’ manager, Roy Hodgson said he does not know anything about the player.
Although sports247.ng gathered that Hogdson’s team is in dire need of a hitman up front, the Palace manager is not thinking about Maja one bit.
Maja has made top marks with a rain of goals at The Black Cats, but he recently got the shove, after he refused to accept their deadline for a new deal and opted to move on.
In his search for a new club, Maja has been tipped with a deal at Palace, only for that report to fall into quicksand upon reactions from Hodgson.
After rejecting the offer of a new contract at Stadium of Light, Maja has been linked with Palace, Huddersfield Town and Cardiff City, though the 20-year-old’s current contract expires in the summer.
When taken up on the matter, Hodgson admitted his desperation to find a forward in the transfer window to boost his team’s scoring record, but the former England manager insisted he knows nothing about Maja.
“I’ve never heard of him. I don’t follow Sunderland and his name has not been mentioned to me.
“I’m not going to stand here and answer questions about individuals and names. The fact is it’s not my job to scout players.
“I’m sure if you ask our scouting department and our head of scouting about Josh Maja, he would tell you chapter and verse about him.
“No one has mentioned his name to me, I don’t spend my time watching Sunderland play,” Hodgson stressed.
