Jesuayomi described the experience as not only thrilling but also educational, highlighting the opportunity to connect with fellow athletes from various states and forge new friendships.
Speaking to Sports247, he expressed his enthusiasm for the event and looked forward to future participation.
“My experience at the 7th National Youth Games has been truly enriching. It’s been an exciting and educational journey for me. I’ve had the chance to witness many talented athletes giving their all in their respective events.
I’ve also had the opportunity to meet and connect with young people from other states who share my passion for sports. We’ve formed friendships, and it’s been an incredible experience.
The organizers have treated us very well, ensuring we are comfortable during our time in camp. I look forward to participating in such events in the future.” He speaks.
Regarding the games themselves, Jesuayomi revealed his ambition to compete in the 4×400 meters relay race, having already taken part in the 4×100 meters relay where he ran in the third leg. He was eager to represent his state in the 4×400 meters finals.
In terms of his future plans and ambitions, Jesuayomi emphasized the importance of both education and sports in his life. He expressed a desire to excel in both fields but acknowledged that education would take precedence at this stage.
“In terms of my future plans and ambitions, I have big dreams in sports, but I also understand the importance of education. My plan is to balance both. While I’m committed to sports, my education takes priority at this stage. I believe in giving my best in both areas. Once I’ve completed my education, I can fully focus on my sports career.”
Jesuayomi’s role model is the legendary sprinter Usain Bolt, whom he admires for his distinctive running style. He explained that although Usain Bolt primarily identifies as a sprinter, he had ventured into the 400-meter race once.
He noted that while he might lack the sheer speed for sprinting, he possesses the endurance required for quarter-mile running. His goal for the competition was to secure a top-three finish in the final race and dedicate any medal won to Ogun State, which had given him the opportunity to represent the state on a larger stage.
“My aim for this competition is to finish among the top three, and if I achieve that, I’ll dedicate the medal to Ogun State, which has given me this incredible opportunity to represent them,” Jesuayomi Odunayo said.
