Super Eagles legend, Auatine Jay-Jay Okocha has been named as the 7th best player ever to come out of the continent of Africa by the France Football Magazine.
The former PSG super star was named alongside nine other African legends who made their marks playing the round leather game. Augustine Azuka “Jay-Jay” Okochawho was one of the only four Africans to be included in Pele’s top 125 living footballer.
Chelsea and Ivorian legend, Didier Drogba was named at distance 5th position and ahead of him are Abedi Pele Ayew, Roger Milla, Samuel Eto’o Fils and George Weah.
The top 10 all time African players as ranked by France Football Magazine are Laurent Pokou who came in 10th position. The Ivorian legend was twice the Africa Nations Cup top scorer in 1968 and 1970. His 14 goal pride at Africa Nations Cup was the highest until broken by Samuel Eto’o Fils.
In 9th position is Salif Keita. Salif Keita who was 1970 Africa Footballer of the year was named 9th. The Malian played for top clubs like Marseille and Valencia and helped Saint-Étienne to three consecutive Ligue 1 titles between 1967-70, including the double in 1968 and 1970.
Mustapha Dahleb sits in 8th position. The Algerian and PSG legend got a spot. Dahled is Paris Saint-Germain third highest goalscorer in French Lique 1.
7th is Nigeria’s Augustine Azuka “Jay-Jay” Okocha The two time BBC African Footballer of the year (2003, 2004) and seven-time Nigerian Footballer of the year (1995, 1997, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005) deservedly earned a spot in the special list. Augustine Azuka “Jay-Jay” Okocha is unarguably the most skilful player in Africa football history and one of the most skillful player in the world.
Rabah Madjer occupies the 6th position. The Algeria and Porto legend got a spot on the list. Rabah Madjer was the 1987 Africa Footballer of the year and three-time Primeira Liga winner in 1985-86, 1987-88, 1989-90 with Porto.
5th is Chelsea’s legend, Didier Drogba, One of the most decorated African player ever. Didier Drogba is Ivory Coast all-time top scorer and Africa’s all-time top scorer in the Champions League.
Ghanaian Abedi Pele is 4th. The Ghanaian and Marseille legend placed 4th. He was three-time African player of the year in 1991,1992 and 1993. He was named the “man of the match” in Marseille’s historic UEFA Champions League final win over Milan in 1993.
3rd, Roger Milla. He was two-time African Footballer of the year in 1976, 1990 and led Cameroon to the AFCON title in 1984 and 1988. Roger Milla helped Cameroon to quarterfinal at the 1990 world cup. He remains the only African player to have made FIFA World Cup XI. He also won the FIFA World Cup Bronze boot in 1990.
Samuel Eto’o Fils is 2nd. He is one of the most decorated African player alongside Didier Drogba. Samuel Eto’o is currently African Cup of Nations all-time top scorer. He is also Cameroon’s all-time top scorer. He won the Africa Nations Cup with Cameroon in 2000 and 2002. He also won the African Best Player award in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2010.
And the king is George Oppong Weah. He is the only African player to have ever won the FIFA World Player of the year and Ballon d’Or sitting at the number 1 spot. He won the Africa Footballer of the Year in 1989, 1994 and 1995.
