The recently concluded second edition of the Jagaban Cup, a prestigious football tournament in Nigeria, has been hailed as a resounding success.
The tournament, which took place at the Mobolaji Johnson Stadium, Onikan, Lagos, saw the top eight clubs in Nigeria competing for the coveted trophy with Smart City FC winning the tournament, Sports247 reports.
Dr. Kolapo Kolade, a Lagos-based football enthusiast and NPFL match commissioner, commended the efforts of Alhaji Gaffar Ahmed, the man behind the tournament. “Gaffar is a man of action and is a man that loves the youth. He has done a lot for the youth of the state and the country in general. I salute his courage for this successful competition,” said Dr. Kolade.
The Jagaban Cup is not just a tournament; it’s a platform for young players to showcase their skills to top European scouts. Last year, the tournament produced seven players who are now playing their trade outside the country. “Last year, this competition produced seven players that are currently playing their trades outside the country. And it shows how this man is taking this youth out of the street and putting their family from poverty to prosperity,” Dr. Kolade added.
One such success story is that of Sochi wing back Solomon Agbalaka, who participated in the first edition of the tournament. His journey serves as an inspiration for all the players.
As we wrap up the second edition of the Jagaban Cup, the focus now shifts to the future. With the continued support of individuals like Alhaji Gaffar Ahmed, the tournament promises to remain a beacon of hope for young footballers in Nigeria, providing them with the platform they need to reach their dreams.
