The first edition of the Layiwola Ayinde Balogun Memorial Football Carnival is set to take place in Iwaya community in honor of the late legend.
The Late Alhaji Layiwola was a known member of the Iwaya community who was selfless in helping with the struggles of the people and also an advocate for youth sports development in the community.
The project coordinator, Rauf Balogun stated that everything was in order in preparation for the competition.
“Everything is getting ready for this. It’s more than a football game as we’re bringing some agents and scouts to take a look at the boys,” he told Sports247.
The One-day tournament is set to see four teams; Mighty Stars FC, Dynamos Fc, Soccer City FC and Jsave FC battle it out for a trophy at the Abete field on Monday, 11th July from 8am as the competition has received supports and is still receiving.
“It’s not a one-off program, we intend to have this continuously and we thank brands like Haggai who have chosen to support us with jerseys, Colin Edwin with balls and many others as well as the youths of this community will have the opportunity to showcase their talent,” Alhaji Rauf said.
There’s so much hope in the community producing national talents and heroes as it can be said that Ex-internationals Alloy Agu and Dosu Joseph all came from the community.
