Nigerian table tennis Wizkid, Azeez Solanke on Saturday broken the dominance of Egypt in the boys singles event of the ITTF African Junior and Cadet Championship, sports247.ng exclusively reports.
The events which reached the final on Saturday where Solanke won the junior boys’ singles title after defeating Egyptian Marwan Abdelwahab (13-11, 4-11, 10-12, 11-5, 13-11, 11-6) and partnered with Jamiu Ayanwale to claim the junior boys doubles gold after overcoming the pair of Gawad El-Herazy and Marwan Abdelwahab (11-8, 11-7, 11-6)
Sports247.ng also gathers that Azeez Solanke won another top prize in the junior boys’ team event while in the boys’ Cadet singles, Nigeria’s Taiwo Mati won gold after eliminating compatriot Jamiu Ayanwale, (11-8, 11-4, 11-9, 11-8)
It was however a mixed fortunes for Nigeria as Emmanuel Augustine narrowly missed the under 21 men’s singles gold. He was beaten by Egypt’s Mahmoud Helmy
(11-1, 8-11, 14-12, 11-6, 11-2).
