In the final match of the LAB Memorial Football competition, Mighty Stars FC put up a valiant fight but fell short against Right Choice Vision FA losing 1-0.
The journey to the final was a rollercoaster ride, with Mighty Stars FC defeating Collins Edwin Sports Club in a tense penalty shootout, while Right Choice Vision FA secured a comfortable 3-0 victory over Rechabite FC.
Despite the loss, the coach of Mighty Stars FC, Odafe Martins, remained optimistic.
“It’s a good experience. It’s a good game. It’s only the referee that makes the game look rowdy,” he said.
The coach expressed dissatisfaction with the officiating, which he felt contributed to the rowdiness of the game and impacted the team’s performance.
The coach also acknowledged the missed opportunities during the match.
“You know, in football teams must lose chances, teams must convert chances. But it now depends on the way the referees handle the game,” he explained.
He particularly pointed out an incident where one of their players was given a red card, which he felt was unjust.
Despite coming second, the team and their fans are still jubilant.
“We are happy to come in second. You know, the fans. Because what they expected from the referee in the way he officiated, that’s what causes this rousing,” the coach added.
Looking forward, Coach Martins revealed the team’s plans.
“We go back, we watch the clips, watch our mistakes. Then any condition, we are going to work on it,” he said.
As for their participation in the NLO, he said, “No, we will see whether our sponsor will take us there this year.”
This experience, though challenging, has provided Mighty Stars FC with valuable lessons and the determination to come back stronger in their future games.
