Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has stated his aim for a victory against Benin Republic in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers on Thursday.
Nigeria will face Benin in their penultimate game of the qualifiers at the Stade Felix Houphouet Boigny in Abidjan.
As three-time African champions, the Super Eagles are on the brink of securing their place in the tournament.
However, this match holds additional significance as Benin are close rivals, and Nigeria seeks to establish dominance ahead of their 2026 World Cup Qualifiers clash next year.
Coach Augustine Eguavoen has a full squad at his disposal, ensuring an evenly matched contest.
Despite the challenges, Troost-Ekong is confident in his team’s ability to secure a win.
“The stadium is familiar to us and holds good memories from previous AFCON outings,” Troost-Ekong said in an interview.
“We will focus on the positive results we’ve achieved here and work hard for another successful day on Thursday.”
He acknowledged the difficulty of the match, given Benin’s pursuit of their own AFCON ticket, but remains resolute in his objective.
“It’s not going to be easy because the Beninoise are also chasing a spot in the final tournament. However, our objective is clear: three points on the night,” he emphasized.
As the Super Eagles prepare for this crucial encounter, all eyes will be on their performance to see if they can secure the points needed to solidify their qualification and set the tone for future matches against their rivals.
